The Heiress Culture

The Heiress

This year the country will celebrate the 170th anniversary of Ikhlas Doukenuly, great kuishi –  kobyz player, composer and the founder of the Kazakh kobyz school. Not many of us know that his heiress, Aknar Sharipbaeva, lives in Atyrau. Aknar is his great-great-granddaughter. Like her great ancestor, Aknar is also a kobyz player and composer, the winner of many republican competitions and international festivals. She gives kobyz classes in Atyrau State University, plays in national instruments orchestra named after Dina Nurpeissova. Aknar is also the mother of many children, which is a rarity among the people who dedicate their lives to art. January 10 2013, 12:10 4 089 views

Kids immediately surrounded us and wishes poured from different directions: girls asked dolls, bar pins and hair-slides from the magical granddad and boys wanted toy cars, Batman and helicopters. We promised that we will pass all their wishes personally to Santa Claus. Children smiled in return. The doubt was in their eyes, as well as little hope.   January 3 2013, 18:17 2 982 views
Freezing Islands Economy

Freezing Islands

NCOC oil consortium responded to our editorial enquiry about the situation on A and D islands (North-Caspian offshore project). To recall, due to weather conditions the islands were frozen in (see – “Kashagan cut off from big land, as east wind drives water away”) and food supply lines have been interrupted.  Information was received about protest moods among the workers of CAPE and Kentech contracting companies (up to 300 people), particularly, because of the impossibility to leave the islands at the end of work rotation.
