Mushrooms in Atyrau

I tried mushrooms for the first time in my life when I was in the army. Our military academy was located in the centre of the city on the coast of the Neva River. Once a month we used to go for training to a polygon - a shooting range. During the breaks between the sessions, the nurse who accompanied us, used to distribute to us, the young soldiers, whickered baskets and asked us to collect mushrooms in the woods nearby. In return she treated us with “soukhariki”- toasted sweet bread. Being the son of the steppe, I knew nothing about mushrooms and collected them all, without knowing which ones were edible and which ones were poisonous.   January 31 2013, 16:24 2 161 просмотрs

Lady’s Finger

As reported by many mass-media, recently a 21-year-old man from Pavlodar was arrested for 5 days for giving a middle finger to the cortege of the Chairman of the Senate of the RoK Parliament - Kairat MAMI. It appeared that he is not the only citizen of Kazakhstan, who showed this gesture to VIP persons. My colleague – the editor of the newspaper “West Kazakhstan Today” (an English enclosure to Ak Zhaik newspaper) Zeena Urynbassarova remembered a fact when she, in similar way, tainted her clean biography in 2005. Atyrau through the eyes of foreigners

Recently a friend of mine, browsing the endless space of Internet, came across a website where expats, who work and live in Atyrau, share their impressions about the life here. One of the authors of those postings (probably, a young man) tried to understand the reasons of (literally) "offenses and hatred in this young country" of local population towards people of his kind. Let us also try to understand the issue. January 5 2013, 17:54 20 705 просмотрs
Child made a wish, You made it come true Society

Child made a wish, You made it come true

How Ak Zhaik readers made children’s wishes come true on New Year’s eve. At the beginning of December we, the reporters of AkZhaik newspaper, visited the orphanage # 1 and told the children that it was Santa Claus who sent us and requested to find out what each child wants to get for a New Year present. Kids immediately surrounded us and wishes poured from different directions: girls asked dolls, bar pins and hair-slides from the magical granddad and boys wanted toy cars, Batman and helicopters. We promised that we will pass all their wishes personally to Santa Claus. Children smiled in return. The doubt was in their eyes, as well as little hope.   January 3 2013, 18:17 2 497 просмотрs
