Quota for happiness

In Atyrau there are more and more childless couples. 395 women and 16 men have been registered as infertile to-date. But it is only official data.

According to the Deputy Head of Health Care Department of Atyrau Oblast Dina KAMELOVA, 3 quotas were allocated for in vitro fertilisation (IVF) in 2010,  12 in 2011, 20 in 2012. The quotas allocated for this year have already been used.

The payment for pregnancy (IVF plus medications) varies depending on each case and can reach up 1 mln tenge. All the expenses are paid from the state budget to the receivers of the quotas.

– WHO described 16 reasons of man's infertility and 22 of female, – says Tamara DZHUSUBALIEVA, the director of the Almaty Center of In Vitro Fertilisation. – We analysed data in recent years and came to a conclusion: approximately in 70% of cases it is possible to help married couples with the traditional methods of treatment – with medications, conservative or surgical, and 30 % of childless couples need the help of reproductive technologies.
