Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the State of Kuwait Yerzhan Yelekeyev held a meeting with Eisa Al-Maraghi, Chief Executive Officer of Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC).
The parties discussed prospects for expanding Kazakhstan-Kuwait cooperation in the oil and gas sector, with particular attention to opportunities for the Kuwaiti side to participate in promising projects in Kazakhstan.
The Ambassador of Kazakhstan briefed his counterpart on the potential of Kazakhstan’s oil and gas sector, available investment opportunities, and the country’s interest in attracting international investment, advanced technologies and expertise in hydrocarbon exploration and production.
KUFPEC’s management expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in Kazakhstan’s oil and gas sector and considering potential participation in specific projects.
The parties agreed to hold an online meeting between the relevant technical teams of Kazakhstan and KUFPEC for an in-depth discussion of investment opportunities, technical parameters and possible mechanisms for the implementation of oil and gas projects. Based on the outcomes of this work and upon identifying specific projects of mutual interest, the parties will consider to hold bilateral meetings and exchanging delegations to further advance practical cooperation.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their interest in maintaining direct working-level dialogue and gradually moving towards the consideration of specific opportunities for cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) is an international oil and gas company wholly owned by the state-owned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), specializing in oil and gas exploration and production outside Kuwait. The company operates in 8 countries across five continents. In 2024, KUFPEC’s production stood at approximately 76,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. In 2026, the company agreed to acquire a 20% interest in the Orca and Sul de Orca projects in Brazil. Orca’s resources are estimated at approximately 370 million barrels, with a planned production capacity of up to 120,000 barrels of oil per day.
