Kazakhstan and Spain Develop Partnership in the Field of Nuclear Safety

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Spain Danat Mussayev held a meeting with the President of Spain’s Nuclear Safety Council, Juan Carlos Lentijo.

The Kazakh diplomat briefed his interlocutor on Kazakhstan’s approaches to the development of the national nuclear industry and informed him about the results of the republican referendum onthe construction of the country’s first nuclear power plant.

It was noted that the development of nuclear energy is regarded by Kazakhstan as an important element of ensuring long-term energy security, as well as a driver for scientific and technologicalprogress, the training of highly qualified personnel and the strengthening of the country’s industrial potential.

Mussayev also reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s unwavering commitment to the principles of nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation and the peaceful use of nuclear energy. In this context, the parties discussed prospects for further cooperation within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the coordination of efforts to advance the relevant international agenda.

The interlocutors noted the significant potential for bilateral cooperation in the nuclear field and expressed interest in exploring joint initiatives aimed at expanding practical interaction between the relevant institutions of Kazakhstan and Spain.
