Export revenue from Kazakhstan’s oil and fat industry has grown fourfold over four years and reached 963 million US dollars. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin while opening the V International Oil and Fat Conference FOC 2026: Fats and Oils Conference in Astana.
Representatives of 18 countries, international organizations, leading global companies, financial institutions, industry associations, and the expert community are participating in the conference.
Serik Zhumangarin noted that in recent years the oil and fat industry has transformed from one of the segments of the agro-industrial complex into a strategically important area of the national economy and has become a successful example of economic diversification, development of processing, and creation of high value-added products.
“In just four years, foreign currency revenue from the export of Kazakhstani oil and fat products has increased fourfold — from $240 million to $963 million. Production reached a record 1.6 million tons, and the industry’s share in the export of processed agricultural products amounted to 27%. This is the result of a consistent state policy to support domestic producers, develop processing, and attract investment. Along with processing, agriculture is also developing: sown areas of oilseed crops are expanding, farm profitability is growing, new jobs are being created, and transport and export infrastructure is developing,” the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
Today, Kazakhstan ranks sixth in the world in sunflower oil exports and is the second largest supplier of this product to the Chinese market. In addition, the republic is among the leading suppliers of sunflower meal to the European Union and almost fully meets the needs of Central Asian countries.
According to Serik Zhumangarin, the next task for the industry is to move from the status of a major exporter to the position of one of the world leaders. To achieve this, the Roadmap for the Development of Oil and Fat Products Exports for 2026–2028 is being implemented.
“Our goal is to increase the industry’s foreign currency revenue to more than $1.5 billion, strengthen Kazakhstan’s position among the world’s largest sunflower oil exporters, and create a foundation for entering the top three global leaders in the industry,” he emphasized.
To achieve these goals, work will continue on expanding sown areas of high-margin oilseed crops, increasing yields through modern agricultural technologies, stimulating investment in deep processing, and developing transport and logistics infrastructure and international trade routes.
Chairman of the National Association of Processors of Kazakhstan Yadikar Ibragimov reported that the industry is actively expanding its export geography and improving logistics solutions.
Thus, in 2026, vegetable oil was transshipped onto a sea vessel for the first time at the port of Aktau. With the support of JSC “NC “KTZ”, pilot shipments of granulated sunflower meal in grain carriers began towards China through the Dostyk – Alashankou border crossing.
In addition, in autumn 2025, sunflower oil was sent for the first time in Kazakhstan’s history in 40-foot containers in flexitanks from East Kazakhstan Region to Jiangsu Province in China. The cargo covered 4,700 km in 12 days, confirming the efficiency and high speed of container transportation.
