Car runs into crowd near Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas

More than 37 people have been hurt and one person killed after a car ran down pedestrians in Las Vegas. Several of those injured are in critical condition.

Police said a car plowed into a crowd on Sunday not far from where the Miss Universe pageant was being held in Las Vegas.

The local police department posted this message on Twitter.

Seven of those injured were in critical condition, television channel CNN reported fire officials as saying.

It's still not clear whether the incident, which occurred in front of the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, was an accident or premeditated.

The Miss Universe pageant is an annual event held in the United States. Women from around the world compete for the title. This year's crown went Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines.
