Former CIA employee Edward Snowden became the winner of Kazakhstan Journalists' Union award under “Journalistic investigation" nomination.
Snowden who was a technical assistant in the CIA on a secret NSA project, said he leaked the information after realizing that President Obama was continuing the policies of former president George Bush.
He told the Guardian on a June 6 video interview that he didn't want to live in a world where all his actions are recorded. The Washington Post and the Guardian both reported that the U.S security has been monitoring data using Verizon phone calls and online mediums such as Facebook and Google.
