Early in the morning on June 1, the residents of Atyrau were woken up by powerful peals of thunder. The lightning fell onto one of the houses located on street #6 in Samal microregion. Nobody suffered, but the roof and the second floor of the newly constructed cottage burned down.
We haven't seen the house owners. According to builders working on the construction of the neighboring house, after fire the owners moved to their relatives. The builders and neighbors said that the roof and second flooring was burnt due to lightning stroke.
In Mayor's office they didn't provide an immediate answer to the question what the owners should in such cases when they suffer from natural phenomena of this kind and requested to send a written inquiry. We included into the written request the question as to who should control the installation of lightning rods in private residential areas.
