Manuel BarrosoThe newly signed cooperation agreement between Kazakhstan and the European Union demonstrates that the EU is ready to build strong relations with Kazakhstan and other members of the Customs Union, according to President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso.
"The new agreement on extended partnership and cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU shows that Europe is open to building strong and stable relations with other members of the Customs Union - Belarus and Russia," President Barroso said after the meeting with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in Brussels on Thursday.
Barroso believes that the agreement demonstrates that the CU member states can expand and deepen relations with the EU.
The President of the European Commission also thanked President Nazarbayev for balanced position that Kazakhstan takes on the situation in Ukraine. "We both share the opinion that the Ukrainian crisis should be solved through peaceful negotiations," Mr. Barroso added.
