EU Council approves sending police mission to Ukraine

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius informed Russian journalists on the sidelines of the meeting of 28 EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg on Monday.

“Today, a political decision has been made that the mission will be sent for two years. The formation of the mission will start immediately, and it will be able to depart in the nearest time. Its task will be to contribute to reforms of the system of internal affairs and security services in Ukraine,” he added.

In April, the EU Council considered the option of setting up a mission of instructors for the Ukrainian security services. The initiative was proposed by the UK, Sweden and Poland.
