President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev calls on the Turkic-speaking nations to revive and use potential of the Great Silk Road effectively.
"The new century is giving us a chance to revive the Great Silk Road. And it will be a great mistake for the Turkic-speaking world not to use that geopolitical potential," President Nazarbayev said at the 4th Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking Countries in Bodrum, Turkey.
According to Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kazakhstan will soon complete the construction of "Western Europe - Western China" transport corridor. "Likewise, a railway line crossing the territory of Turkmenistan and Iran that is set to be commissioned in the nearest future will give access to the Persian Gulf. We are also planning to increase capacity of the Aktau Sea Port. To this end, we believe it is very important to step up cooperation between Aktau, Baku and Samsun," the Kazakh leader stressed the need of closer interaction between the sea ports of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
President Nazarbayev also urged businessmen from the Turkic-speaking countries to enter the Eurasian Economic Union market uniting more than 170 million consumers. "The Eurasian Economic Union Treaty was signed in Astana last week," the Head of State reminded.
