Kazakhstan’s Central Bank Governor glad over his growing publicity in the wake of the 20% currency devaluation

“I regard [my growing publicity] to be a positive thing. Before yesterday I had never enjoyed such popularity. My popularity ratings in my own family had never been so high. My family members are asking me to keep a lower profile. Unfortunately, it wasn’t me who incited this publicity”, he told a briefing at the President’s Public Communications Service when commenting on Internet jokes on him.

Starting from February 11, 2014 Kazakhstan’s Central Bank decided to stop supporting the tenge exchange rate, decrease currency interventions and stop interference with shaping the tenge exchange rate.
