National Atomic Company Kazatomprom JSC reports that by the end of 2024, the Kazakh-Chinese joint venture Ulba-FA LLP has reached its design capacity of 200 tons of low–enriched uranium in the form of fuel assemblies.
Ulba-FA is the only fuel production facility for nuclear power plants in Central Asia. The project is being implemented by NAC Kazatomprom JSC, represented by its subsidiary Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC, together with China General Nuclear Power Corporation.
The production of nuclear fuel at Ulba-FA was launched in November 2021. From the moment of commissioning, the plant has systematically increased production volumes, following the schedule for reaching the design capacity within three years.
The competitive advantage of manufactured products is determined by their quality, timeliness and reliability of supply. All fuel assemblies produced at this plant are supplied to nuclear power plants in China.
Following the results of the third year of operation, the enterprise fulfilled its goal, producing 200 tons of low-enriched uranium in 2024. This volume corresponds to the amount of nuclear fuel needed to reload six nuclear reactors.
