Russia’s President Vladimir Putin made an appeal to the delegates of the General Assembly of the International Exhibitions Bureau, presenting a case for his country to host the World Expo 2020. Five countries — Turkey, Thailand, Russia, Brazil and the UAE — had initially bid to host the World Expo 2020.
Washington Post wrote with an irony that he speaks English throughout his appeal, "a bit awkwardly, a somewhat strange display for those of us accustomed to seeing Putin’s carefully maintained tough-guy air."
