QazaqGaz has officially launched the Barkhannaya gas field, which forms part of the Amangeldy group of fields, reports QazaqGaz. The formal start of operations was given by Alibek Zhamauov, Chairman of the Management Board of QazaqGaz, during a launch ceremony held via videoconference. The project is being implemented under the roadmap approved by the Ministry of Energy to expand Kazakhstan’s gas resource base.
The project is expected to create new jobs and generate additional revenues for the state budget. Total tax payments and contractual obligations associated with the development of the field are estimated at KZT 18.6 billion.
“The launch of the Barkhannaya field is the result of systematic efforts to strengthen our domestic gas resource base and represents an important contribution to the country’s energy security,” said Alibek Zhamauov.
As part of the preparation for launch, QazaqGaz Exploration and Production completed a full range of field development works, including the construction of a gas gathering facility and the Barkhannaya–Amangeldy gas pipeline. The company also carried out the recommissioning of the previously drilled B-5 well and drilled the B-6 production well, which is currently in the final stage of commissioning.
In December, the Government approved the transfer of land from the forest fund to an industrial category, enabling the completion of all legal and infrastructure procedures required to commence commercial production.
Gas output from the Barkhannaya field is expected to reach around 30 million cubic metres in 2026, with peak production of approximately 65 million cubic metres anticipated by 2028.
