Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-BowlesOn the latest news about the royals, Prince Charles' better half Camilla Parker-Bowles will be hailed as the new queen when the Prince of Wales replaces Queen Elizabeth on the throne. Instead of getting a divorce, the couple will be the new king and queen when the 88-year-old monarch steps down as the head of state, according to the former Buckingham Palace press secretary, Dick Arbiter.
Based on Arbiter's newly published book, "On Duty With the Queen: My Time As a Buckingham Palace Press Secretary," the Duchess of Cornwall will not remain as princess consort. Instead, she will wear the crown as queen right beside Charles "if he becomes king at 79" while Prince William and Prince Harry will just support their father's decision if the day comes.
"They'll have been married 23 years if he becomes king at 79. It will have been more than 30 years since Diana died. People mellow. She's pretty well received up and down the country these days. People say to me, 'What do William and Harry think? Their view is they like her and their attitude is if their father is happy, they're happy," Arbiter said.
But making Camilla the new queen requires a legislation from Britain including the 17 Commonwealth countries governed by the monarch. But a royal statement in 2012 confirmed that the Duchess of Cornwall will be known as HRH The Princess Consort if Charles inherits the throne.
During his time in the palace, Arbiter served the Queen when Prince Charles and Princess Diana are dealing with their divorce and the aftermath of the People's Princess' death. Now working as a television commentator on all things royal, the 74-year-old is currently giving advice to the next generation of courtiers when the monarchy is going to a transition.
With Charles getting more royal responsibilities and slowly playing the role as the king-in-waiting, the chances of Camilla being crowned as the next queen is a possibility. With new reports that the Queen is battling with Alzheimer's disease, only time will tell if Arbiter's prediction is going to be a reality.
