Muslim world begins holy month of Ramadan

Photo: Kanat EleuovThis weekend the Muslim world began making the beginning of the holy fasting season of Ramadan. In this connection the Imam of Atyrau Oblast Mosque Batyrzhan Mansurov conducted press-conference dedicated to the holy month.  

This year the fasting season will last from June 28 till July 27. The Night of Power – the Qadr Night, when it is believed that the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad, will fall on the night July 23-24. It is the night when the Muslims offer extra prayer - the night prayer.

The feast's prayer started in Atyrau on June 28 at 7am. Prior to the feast each Muslims should donate the minimum collection (“fitr”) in the amount of 200 tenge this year.  

The Ramadan season ends with the fast-breaking festival of Eid al-Fitr.
