The military training grounds in Kazakhstan that will be no more leased by Russia will be used for construction of the roads and other economic interests of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Defense said.
The part of the land will go for the construction of the Samara-Shymkent highway, a part of the Western Europe - Western China international transport corridor.
On April 16, 2015 the Ministries of Defense of Kazakhstan and Russia agreed on handing over the test sites Zhaman Tau, Saryshagan, and Taisoigan leased by Russia back to Kazakhstan.
Prior to this agreement, the total area of military sites leased by Russia from Kazakhstan was 11 million hectares.
Russia is handing over 1.6 million hectares.
