Ferguson reacts to grand jury decision

(Reuters)A Ferguson grand jury decided it will not bring criminal charges against officer Darren Wilson, who shot and killed unarmed black teenager Michael Brown. The city is bracing for potentially huge demonstrations in the wake of the decision.

05:22 GMT:President Barack Obama has called for calm in Ferguson following the grand jury’s decision. Appearing at the White House, he said that a lot of work needed to be done to improve race relations between black American’s and the police, rt.com reports.

"We need to accept that this decision was the grand jury's to make. There are Americans who agree with it and there are Americans who are deeply disappointed, even angry. It's an understandable reaction,"Obama said.

05:08 GMT:Acting in solidarity with Ferguson demonstrators, protesters in New York, Los Angeles, Oakland, and outside the White House rally to cry "Black Lives Matter!"

04:50 GMT:A police cordon is pushing the people off the central streets in Ferguson.

"This is an unlawful assembly, it's time to go," an officer keeps saying on RT's Ruptly feed, while adding to anyone who objects "you can discuss at the station!"

04:48 GMT:Police have confirmed that they deployed tear gas earlier this evening. Initially, they denied that was the case.
