Astana Mayor awarded UNESCO Silk Road medal

Astana Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov has been awarded today the UNESCO Silk Road medal during the first interregional meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO started in Astana, inform.kz reports.

"It's a great honor for us to welcome such an authoritative international forum. First of all, choosing the Astana dialogue platform testifies to great confidence in Kazakhstan and President Nursultan Nazarbayev," the Mayor said.

He also expressed gratitude to UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova for special attitude to Kazakhstan, its capital and her personal friendly attitude.

Reps of the national commissions from 125 countries of the world attend the meeting. Those gathered focus on issues concerning building potential, strengthening cooperation and promotion of the best practices of the commissions.
